A Nubian Vault building for the Nongre Cultural Centre in Ghana

A new NV building for the Nongre Crafts and Culture Centre in Bolgatanga, northern Ghana, comprising a meeting room and a small library for the use of local children and their families, was completed in March this year. Their original timber and zinc roof building had been badly damaged in a storm several years ago.

Funds for the NV construction were raised by staff and students of the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Vienna, and the associated Young Earth Builders group. Four architecture students from the University were involved in initial discussions about the design of the building, and also documented its construction as part of their degree work.

Construction was carried out by NV artisan builder Samuel Kogo and his team in liaison with AVN's National Coordinator Emmanuel Atubiga. The Director of the Nongre centre, Adombila, and his staff are so pleased with this building, so much more robust and comfortable than their original one, that they hope to have a second NV built alongside it next season.

Fin 2022, le centre culturel et d'artisanat Nongre a fait peau neuve à Bolgatanga, dans le nord du Ghana. Initialement paré d'un toi de bois et de zinc, le bâtiment d'origine avait été gravement endommagé lors d'une tempête il y a plusieurs années. Le nouveau bâtiment, réalisé en VN et terminé fin mars dernier, comprend une salle de réunion et une petite bibliothèque au bénéfice des populations locales.

Les fonds pour la construction ont été collectés par le personnel et les étudiants de la Faculté d'architecture de l'Université technique de Vienne et le groupe associé Young Earth Builders. Quatre étudiants en architecture de l'Université ont participé aux discussions initiales sur la conception du bâtiment et ont également documenté sa construction dans le cadre de leur cursus.

Ce bâtiment a été réalisé par l'artisan maçon VN Samuel Kogo et son équipe en liaison avec le Coordonnateur National Ghana Emmanuel Atubiga. Le directeur du centre et ses collaborateurs ont exprimé leur satisfaction de bénéficier d'un bâtiment robuste et confortable par rapport à celui d'origine, et ils espèrent en faire construire un second la saison prochaine.
