• Benin : the Nubian Vault deploys in Atacora

• Mali: a NV building for the Mopti region

  The first community construction site of the 2017-18 season in Mali, initiated by the French Bilou-Toguna Association for the Malian NGO Delta-Survie of Mopti, was completed at the end of December. This 37 m2 dormitory was built in a few weeks by a young Malian artisan mason, Abdoulaye Fané, and his team. This is one of the few NV buildings in the Mopti region, after those completed near Badiangara.

• Mali: a potential partnership in the region of Kayes

  At the beginning of January Alexe Dembélé, AVN-Mali’s National Coordinator invited Amadou Tall, local representative of the Kounda 78 Association and Mr. Barry, President of the Lontou Education Council, to a preliminary meeting to discuss an eventual partnership for the construction of school buildings in the Circle of Kayes. • The experiences of NV trainees in Benin using the intensified training modules

  In January, Samuel Rodrigues, international coordinator of technical training at AVN, came to Djougou to run a training module for nine trainees from Benin and Burkina Faso. This module forms part of the intensified training actions being implemented by AVN to accelerate and improve training of NV masons. Four technical aspects of roof construction were covered in this module: the slope of the roof, and the fitting of gutters, the plastic waterproof sheets, and the parapet slabs. The (...)

• AVN at the World Urban Forum

  Cécilia Rinaudo, AVN Deputy Director, took part last February in the World Urban Forum 9 (WUF9), the first global meeting organised by UN-Habitat following the Habitat III Conference in Quito in 2016, at which the new urban agenda was adopted. Over 22,000 participants from 165 countries took part to exchange views and experiences on urban challenges.

• The SE4ALL Initiative: a theatre forum to raise awareness about sustainable energy in Burkina Faso

• The first NV healthcare building in Ghana

  After over a year of preparation, work started at the beginning of February on the construction of a maternity clinic in Balungu (Bolgatanga region). This project, financed by the local NGO Peal Deng and approved by the regional Ministry of Health, represents a major stage in the development of AVN-Ghana’s programme: it is the first NV health centre to be built in the country since the start of the programme in 2014, the result of a fruitful collaboration between a civil society organisation (...)

• AVN Burkina awarded the special SIERO Eco-Habitat prize

  After participating in Ouagadougou’s Salon International l’Environnement et des Énergies Renouvelables (SIERO) last season, AVN Burkina Faso was awarded the special SIERO Eco-Habitat prize for sustainable development. Two major prizes and eight special prizes were awarded at the 6th anniversary of the Salon in May 2017.

  Un an après sa victoire aux World Habitat Awards, AVN vient de signer avec ONU-Habitat un protocole d’entente visant la mise en œuvre d’activités conjointes liées à la promotion de l’accès au logement abordable et durable pour tous en Afrique.
